ABOUT CRAWFORD & ASSOCIATES
Crawford & Associates, Inc. is a geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, and construction materials testing firm founded in 2012, now with over 85 employees across nine offices in California and Washington State. We're a team of engineers, geologists, and specialists who love solving tough problems, whether that's a bridge foundation, a water line, a new school, or the next big development. We build long-term partnerships with our clients, give advice they can count on, and have fun doing it.

JOB SUMMARY
Crawford & Associates, Inc. is hiring a Business Development Coordinator for our Costa Mesa office that we opened this year. This role is a split between business development and recruiting. You will help find and win new work across Southern California, and help find and hire the people who deliver it. You will report to the Business Development Specialist and work closely with our principals, project managers, and construction services leadership.

If you are a person who likes research, building relationships, and working with cool people, we want to hear from you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Development (approx. 50%)
  • Research and track Southern California public agency opportunities, including capital improvement programs (CIPs), council agendas, planning documents, and bid/RFQ postings.
  • Screen incoming leads for fit with Crawford's services and route them to the right principal or project manager with supporting research.
  • Build competitive intelligence, including which firms have historically won civil and geotechnical work with target agencies.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity, client, and contact information in Crawford's lead tracking system.
  • Prepare for and participate in weekly proposals and business development meetings.
  • Support client outreach and relationship building with agencies, prime consultants, and contractors.
  • Coordinate and attend industry conferences, association events, and client meetings.
Recruiting Support (approx. 40%)
  • Partner with the Business Development Specialist, who oversees recruiting, to divide and manage open requisitions.
  • Handle day-to-day recruiting work, with a focus on entry-level and field roles such as engineering technicians, inspectors, interns, and staff engineers and geologists.
  • Source candidates through LinkedIn, Indeed, job boards, referrals, and university partnerships.
  • Post job openings, screen applicants, conduct initial phone screens, and schedule interviews.
  • Manage candidate pipelines and keep records current in JazzHR, our applicant tracking system.
  • Coordinate with hiring managers on interview feedback and next steps.
  • Represent Crawford at career fairs and campus events, primarily in Southern California.
Operational Support (approx. 10%)
  • Provide light administrative support to the Costa Mesa office as needed.
  • Assist with special projects in business development, recruiting, and HR as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Human Resources, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 1 to 3 years of experience in business development, recruiting, sales, or a similar client- or candidate-facing role.
  • Ability to travel throughout Southern California, with occasional overnight stays.
  • Valid California driver's license and reliable transportation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal supervision.
  • Team player who works well with engineers, field staff, and leadership.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This isn't a desk-all-day job. You'll split your time between our Costa Mesa office and getting out into Southern California: meeting clients, representing Crawford at industry events and conferences, and connecting with students at career fairs. You'll play a key role in helping us win work and supporting the people who do it. Your home base runs Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with the occasional evening or weekend event mixed in.
